MySpace - Comments on Homepage

Displays and automatically updates your last few comments on your MySpace homepage.

Preview Image

A few comments displayed with "Stealth Nick" theme using both Insane Ninja's Auto Home-Update and Home Skin Switchup.

Notes

  • Compatible with Insane Ninja's Auto Home-Update and Home Skin Switchup scripts, but can be used independently.
  • Clicking on the "View all" link will display your latest fifty comments.
  • This script has a user-set variable, defCmtNum, which is the number of comments to display by default. The normal value is set at three, but you can use any number from one to fifty.
  • The second user-set variable is 'position,' which controls the placement of the new comment div. The commented list describes possible values.
  • The comments automatically refresh themselves if you get a new comment.
  • As of now, you will not be alerted of any new comments when using this script, either in conjunction with Insane Ninja's scripts or independently.

Changelog

  • 05/12/08 (v0.7.5) - Adds option to disable videos.
  • 04/24/08 (v0.7.4) - Adjusted to MySpace changes. Doesn't crash.

  • 04/04/08 (v0.6) - Resolved conflict between embedded media in comments and Firefox extensions similar to Ad Block Plus that add custom HTML.

@lawrence
I still don't have a capitable version for Customize It; I think Customize It would have to change to allow my script.

@Chris
I'm not sure how the script would change anything on comment.myspace.com; I don't think the blinking cursor appears even with greasemonkey disabled. Thanks for the compliments, though.

@question
I'm going to guess you've already figured that the control panels duplication is caused by Auto-Update.

@Chris
The latest version now allows to disable videos with the showVideos variable at the beginning of the script. Thanks, let me know if it helps with your problem.

Hey I noticed this script is sucking up my CPU so I had to disable it. I think it might have something to do with flash player comments being loaded on the homepage. Maybe you can add an option in your script to disable flash objects from loading? I dunno, just an idea.

Hey, dig the script. Just wanted to let you know that while at comment.myspace.com it disables the blinking cursor in the comment box. Thanks for taking the time and keep em coming man, you've made myspace that much cleaner and bearable.

yes i'm in australia. its showing comments again now thanks. and i realized the reason the module wasn't appearing had to do with the order of the scripts in greasemonkey. if its above Customize it, it shows, if its below it doesn't :S

now i'm just having a bit of trouble with the positioning. i cant get it to sit in the full bottom row like it used to. i have friendspace in the bottom using Customize it and if i put comments either above or below it just goes to the top of the middle column instead.

so there may be some incompatibilities there. i'm not sure.

Would you happen to be using another language or country setting for MySpace?

I designed the relative dates part around the default U.S. time format, which I think is the only setting with that format.

I updated to fix that, if it were your case.

ok i just installed the latest version and now the module doesnt even appear. if i disable all of Insane Ninja's scripts then the title of the module appears but again, it has nothing to show.

also when i was having this problem earlier (and still now) my normal comments page was loading fine.

The other scripts shouldn't have any effect on retrieving the comments. If you're still have this problem go ahead and go to your comments page (where the script looks) at http://comment.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction...

I've found that this doesn't always load completely, which would explain why the comments don't show up on the homepage.

Interestingly, I've also found that if you're linked to the comments page with a MyToken parameter in the url, it usually loads when thelink without the MyToken doesn't.

I'll go ahead and update with the MyToken in there.

i just updated the auto update script, and i think that killed the comments on the home screen script. now it just sits there "loading comments"

@Bloody_Angel & zilch42

I've had that problem before a few times, but every time it did, I also couldn't view comments from the regular page. Oddly, though, if you add the myoken parameter to the url it works. I could use that in the next release.

@Bloody_Angel

I don't believe there's any well to tell if a comment has been read, unless the user specifically marks it so. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to implement, but I honestly like the last three system better. I might put it in a future release, though, but an option set to false by default.

I installed new version now, and it won't work. The same problem as zilch42. I tried uninstalling it, and than installing it again, but nothing...

One question. Is it possible to show only unread comments?? And if there is no any new comment, then to show only last one, or to write "No new comments" ? I think that would be great, if it is possible
