The YouTube HD script is working now with the updated layout, so you may want to check out its code for reference.

What I did to update my own download script, is search the source of the video with &fmt=18 (or 6) for &fmt_map=, because they removed the 'easyer' way of checking it. If &fmt_map= is directly followed by &t=, its not available. If there is something between &fmt_map= and &t=, it means it is availble, and it will work.

The javascript is above my scripting level, so I dont know how I can help you there. But good luck with it ;)

@a fly: If I understand that correctly you are checking whether youtube offers a HD version for a video. However, most videos have a HD version available even if it is not advertised by youtube.

Im very sorry, didnt double check my post before posting...

"It checks if the url of a user contains the" should be: It checks if the source of the url with '&fmt=<value>' contains the....

(I really miss the edit button, ill keep that in mind next time i reply on this site)</value>

Im not sure if its possible with javascript, but i highly doubt that its not.

For my site http://youtubedownload.nl i made a download script, that checks if there is a HD .flv and for .MP4. Because the script is not just mine, and we are the first to have it 100% of all youtube download sites, i don't want to give the source of it, but i can tell you what it does ;) : It checks if the url of a user contains the "Watch this video in lower quality for faster playback" text. If it does, it means it works :P

Good luck with your script!

@deepblonde: No, that is a known issue. My current method of finding the download link runs into a deadend for some videos.

It works well for some clips, but some youtube video's, although they still have the option to watch in 'HQ video stream', don't have the 'download' option, it just isn't there? Any reason? Am I missing something?

@Tobias: That is not the same. As stated in my description, my script still gives better quality and finds HQ videos where youtube supposedly doesn't have any.

Example: http://youtube.com/watch?v=iy9ctJor8dU

Besides from that you can also log into Youtube, click on "Account" and then on "Video Quality Settings". Direct link: http://youtube.com/video_quality_settings

@screamyx : The HD download does not work on all videos. It's an odd bug that I may sort out in the future - until then use one of the many youtube download scripts out there.
