UPDATE: This script is not yet compatible with Facebook's new layout. Until it is you should use my other script, Facebook Fixer, which is fully compatible with the new Facebook and the new layout.

December 7 2008 - This script has been updated to be fully compatible with the new version of Facebook.

When you put the mouse over a small version of a profile picture, a larger version will appear in the corner of the page (even if you are not friends with the person). However, you may prefer my other script, Facebook Fixer, which provides the same features as this script and much, much more.

Facebook Fixer

FB Profile Pic is based on my other script, Facebook Fixer. I just pulled out the code for the "Big Profile Pics" feature to make this script, so this script is meant for people who only want that particular feature of Facebook Fixer. If you want multiple features from Facebook Fixer I highly recommend that you install that script instead.

In addition to having more features, Facebook Fixer is updated more regularly is much easier to customize. Also, Facebook Fixer's customizations are specific for each Facebook account, whereas FB Profile Pic has system-wide settings that affect all Facebook users.

Customization

You can customize the script using about:config.

greasemonkey.scriptvals.http://userscripts.org/people/14536/FB Profile Pic.bigPicPosition

The above preference can be set to "left" to have the larger picture appear in the top left of the page, or "right" (default) to have it appear in the top right.

greasemonkey.scriptvals.http://userscripts.org/people/14536/FB Profile Pic.bigPicAutoclose

The above preference can be set to "false" (default) to keep the larger version visible even when you take the mouse off the smaller one, or "true" to make it disappear when you take the mouse off the smaller one.

greasemonkey.scriptvals.http://userscripts.org/people/14536/FB Profile Pic.smallPicBorder

The above preference can be set to "true" to add a border around small profile pics so that they are easily identified. Keeping it set to "false (default) results in no border.
