Google Reader Mousewheel Always Marks As Read
Always marks items as read when scrolling over the queue with the mousewheel in Google Reader.
This script sets scrolling over the queue with the mousewheel in Google Reader to *always* mark items as read. Should also have some protection against breakage with future Reader updates, though I can't ensure everlasting support. (Hi, everyone - I'm a Google engineer working on Reader and just thought it'd be a good idea after our last scrollwheel update.)

Mihai, also from the Reader team, had a really good suggestion for keeping this script from breaking after updates while also making it faster so I've changed the script accordingly. |

It works now, thank you Chris. Seems that the Reader team is busy with future development. But once you have time, please update the help file: http://www.google.com/help/faq_reader.html#keyb.... In fact, I found that now page down/up have been changed to scan down/up, and F4=Star It, F3=reload ... It's sometime confusing~ As a suggestion, will it be possible to have a key combination functions as scan_page_down/up? And for this GM script, can you add one more modifier, say ALT, to make it switch to scan only mode. Thanks for your script! BTW, this script (as well as last mouse scroll script by Hans) has some issue with the SmoothWheel extension: mouse scroll sometime scrolls the whole page.

Thanks for the answer I´m looking forward for the improvements, I´m using bloglines now and trying GR, but some improvements (althouh there are improvements that I´d like and are very dificult with the current design, like read at the same time all the items of a particular tag, like in bloglines with folders) with some improvements I might change. |

Glad that the script has been a good idea. We're actually working on several ways to support varied settings and UI approaches (some of which have already been planned and are awaiting development and deployment) but we figure if any of us can help with a GM script then that also seems like a good idea since then we can offer more choices with less waiting for people who use Greasemonkey and who'd really benefit from a small enhancement. Additionally, I'm a fan of incremental development since not everything we'd like to do can actually be done all at once and, along those lines, I wouldn't yet discount designing scripts for inspiration as I highly recommend it to any developer, independent or otherwise. |

I wonder, it´s obvious that this script is a great idea ¿Why dont you include it or at least an option to use it in Google Reader? I´m sure that a lot of people who use Bloglines because of the problem of reading a lot of items in GR might change their mind with these changes, it´s only an opinion and sorry to write it here but I dont understand a Google engineer designing scripts for greasemonkey even for inspiration. The first impression of a feed reader is what people remain and may change their mind, not a lot of little improvements in the time. |

Hi, Peter, I've been testing this script on Firefox 1.5b2/GM 0.6.2/Mac OS 10.4.2 and Firefox 1.0.6/GM 0.5.3/Mac OS 10.4.2 and Firefox 1.0.7/GM 0.5.3/WinXP SP 2 and Firefox 1.5b2/GM 0.6.2/WinXP SP 2 and been getting it to work - I wonder if the slight difference in GM versions has compatibility issues. Dunno, and I recognize that that seems unlikely, nevertheless maybe an upgrade to 0.6.2 would help? And, Hans, thanks for the link and the hard work on your script, it was really appreciated by the Reader team. |

it does not work for me...

I've left my script up eventhough it doesn't work anymore and provided a link to you: "Update:29.10.05

I´ve reinstalled the script and it works now but it takes a lot of time to refresh (with the message loading), I dont know if is because of the script. With the other similar script it worked great before the update version Sorry for my English , I´m from Spain |

Hey, blogum, I'm having trouble reproducing your error, though I do believe you. However, I'm seeing something different when this script is applied. When I scroll down items appear as read and when I refresh they remain as read. I wonder if there's a bug that we need to investigate with some other root cause. I'll look into it. |
