CNN Video link (ver. 0.0.1)
Display link to ASX file for embedded media links. Use "Copy link location" menu in Firefox. This script requires GreaseMonkey extension and Firefox browser
This sript will relpace calls to JavaScript by direct link to ASX (media) file. This script is intended for people who for some reason can not install MPlayer plugin for Firefox or willing to run different media player like xine, etc. I use alternative media players instead of plugin because of ability to resize the screen + i do not want even try to install any plugin in the firefox running on my linux. It can be useful also if you want to post a link to CNN video somewhere Please consult license agreement of CNN before you do it.
it is very easy and simple hack. i think or more correct to say that i hope, that CNN intentionally makes the links this way. if i am right and this is indeed the case CNN will not change the system of link creation. that would be really nice considering the fact that more and more people run Linux on desktops and laptops and use alternative media players like xine and VideoLan.

does not work anymore - CNN switched to Flash. I do not have Flash player on my machines, and I do not have reasons to look for workarounds. I just read the articles (no pun intended hehe) from now on |

Hi, The script works very well on the Latest News section on links marked with a camera icon, but further down the page, in the Free Video section, I still have the same problem "No Media Player detected". Do I need another script?
