YousableTubeFix

Removes ads and unwanted sections (configurable), allows downloading and resizing videos, displays all comments on video page, expands the description, can prevent autoplay and autodownload, adds a HD (High Definition) select, etc...

This script was based on ETcelera's YousableTube. It has been now fixed for the current YouTube.com design and almost completely rewritten. I have added some other options

It allows downloading video, removes ads and other stuff, resizes the video, expands the description automatically and displays all comments in the video page (up to 500 comments). It can also change the video to an HD mode (automatically [disabled by default] or with a select)

You can customize YouTube appearance removing various unwanted sections (character counter, Also Watching Now, Embed, etc...)

It can also prevent autoplay and autodownload substituting the player with an icon until it is clicked (disabled by default)

The script can be configured with "YousableTubeFix configuration" menu command (under "Tools" / "Greasemonkey" / "User Script Commands"), available when browsing a YouTube page

If you YousableTubeFix doesn't work as expected, disable any other Greasemonkey YouTube scripts you may have installed. The script assumes it is working in an unmodified YouTube page

Please post here any problems or suggestions you may have

If you find YousableTubeFix useful, you can make a donation here -->

Note: To download the video, click in the video title. The "get_video" file you get is a Flash video file. To reproduce it, you have to rename it to videoname.flv and use a capable player like VLC

Note 2: The high definition versions of the videos require Flash Player 9.0.115 (MPEG-4 H.264) or 7.0.0 (FLV High Quality) (or superior). If the HD version can't be played, you can choose other video format with the video formats' select

dpfox:

Javascript by itself can't control the player. YouTube main player doesn't have an api to pause the video, only the embedded player has one. I'm doing tests to implement that feature without replacing the player

flogger:

YousableTubeFix only works in Youtube main pages, not with embedded videos. Maybe I'll add that in the future

TubeStop probably replaces the player, so the script breaks because it can't find it

about autoplay and autoload

is it possible to automatically pause the player whenever the video starts to load. after 1sec or 0.5 sec after video playback starts for example?

This way it will start to preload but will wait for user input to continue

or is it not possible at all for javascipt to work with youtube's flash buttons?

I love this script, it makes the whole youtube experience much more pleasurable. A note, though: The TubeStop (to prevent autoplay) addon to Firefox breaks the script. I know there is a feature like that in this script too, but for some reason it does not work with embedded youtube videos.

See my 15 Apr, 2008 comment to georgie below. Was your problem related to the script?

Paladinchef:

What is the crash dialog message? I don't think a Greasemonkey script can crash Firefox. You can try reinstalling Greasemonkey and Flash

Thanks dpfox. I could enable the beta player and confirm the problem. But the scripts works ok with the new player, it's the player that resizes itself after loading

I'll download the player and decompile it to see if I can find a workaround, but I'm afraid there isn't much I can do for now. The player is in beta stage, so its code is going to change very often. It's better to use the normal player for now

I want to join on this. I'd rather have it not autoplay, but start preloading.

See my response to Alan Smith below

About the YouTube beta player, I can't test anything on it because I don't get the link in any page (maybe YouTube is testing it with users from certain countries or ip ranges)

Figured this (on new Beta player)

It won't apply default size; one would need to switch to anything other then their default first and then back to default;

in my case I click 1.75x and then back to fill (under player)

Doesn't seem to stretch/fill new youtube beta player, unless I do this:

Fullscreen -> Esc. (exit fullscreen) -> now player is stretched/filled

Thanks. Your suggestion is a frequent one, but I'm trying to find a way to implement it without substituting YouTube player

georgie:
I can do that. But I cannot find the YouTube player Beta link anywhere, even on the same video page of your picture

I would like more items to be removed:

Also I wish the background color could be changed.

Even if a video is just embeded on another site it still gets view counts, so you're right.

I think this script is fantastic.
My suggestion would be to make the auto play and auto download options seperate.
That way the video can start downloading and I can wait until I switch to that page to start playing it.

I suppose the video count is done at the server side (every time a video is downloaded), so the video will still get credit

Mindeye - not sure if you'd know the ansswer to this question, or if it's been asked before, but:

If you disable everything (literally, everything), will the video you've visited still get credit for the view?
