Hiding instead of completely blocking is a limitation of Greasemonkey, not this script. If you want the ads to be blocked completely, try using Adblock or the Proxomitron.

Nice script!
But banner ads at Last.fm don't get removed.
The ads' domain is ad.excite.co.jp.
Please update the script.

Pretty nice. It blocks most major ads.

With Gmail crashing Firefox if either of the adblock extensions are installed, this script is really picking up the slack. Thanks Mysteriously Unknown!!

derek howard: what 'exactly' do u mean by: 'The page is loaded first'
From what i understand,
once, the browser receives the HTML source of a webpage, it creates a DOM tree of the HTML elements of a webpage. Then, greasemonkey changes the elements of the tree using bits of DHTML (user scripts). Once this is done, the browser interprets the changed tree, in effect doing things like removing ads (or changing font, colour etc.)

So, why are ads displayed and then removed when we use Ad blocker. Please help!

sharath b r:
That is how Greasemonkey works. The page is loaded first, then the script is taken into effect.

pro's: works ACCURATELY since it actually removes ads and doesn't simply block image files
con's: advertisements are actually DISPLAYED first and then REMOVED!. Why cant they be simply blocked?
also 'ad blocker' is comparitively SLOWER compared to the 'ad block' firefox extension.

someone please help!
