This script is based on Geva Zeichner's Gmail RTL extension (forum discussion).
Having a user script has several benefits:
1. Users can easily change it to work in Gmail in their own domain
2. Users can easily customize it to their needs
3. It can be run on Internet Explorer using Reify's Turnabout or IE7Pro
This user script also fixes a minor problem in the extension - it adds the RTL and LTR buttons to new drafts (opened in Drafts), where the extension doesn't.
This script has one drawback: To keep it simple, it doesn't detect when the Gmail page was fully loaded, but instead, check for new message window every three seconds. From my tests, this has no real affect on preformance. Let me know if your experience is different.
Finally, the script assumes you want RTL to be set by default. If this is not the case, you need to edit the script and change the USE_RTL_BY_DEFAULT variable to false.
