I also highly recommend the free (open source) desktop Firewall program "Peer Guardian", it started out at http://sourceforge.net/ (Great Site), and has evolved to http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/
I use it with Kaspersky security suite. I'm amazed at what it blocks that Kaspersky, TrendMicro, McAfee, Symantec, Panda. etc... miss!
It is currently blocking 750+ Million Black listed sites (IP addresses).
Small Install, Footprint and has simple interface for changing settings
