This script works perfectly for Google Reader. Incidentally, I found that the much toted 'Absolutely Compact' script by another developer did not work at all. The key difference - this one shows the clickable links in each RSS entry's title. This, for me, is essential. Thank you for 'Compact & Clean'. It's a winner!

I have been using Firefox with Google Reader Absolutely Compact userstyle, till I switched over to Google Chrome the day Chrome was launched, and I saw Chrome. It was sort of love at first sight, something I already experienced with GMail, GTalk and GReader previously :).

Since Google has started speaking about "extension system" and other stuff, I searched for the well-missed Google Reader maximized script/extension for Chrome and saw this. After using it for a few minutes, I am sorry to say that though it is a highly useful script, it has one major drawback: it doesn't highlight the current item. In the default Reader implementation, the current item is highlighted with a blue box appearing along the border of the item. So, though I can press n/p to navigate, I really don't know which one is the current item. Perhaps the script requires us to use j/k, but I am a n/p person -- I expand an item when the source (author/site) or the title demands it.

It would be great if this can be fixed. With the limitation I am giving it a 3/5 and had it had the current-item-highlight, I would have given it a whopping 5/5.

Update [02-Jul-09 0130 hrs IST]: Found out how to solve my gripe. In the var css = "..." declaration that spans multiple lines (word wrap ON) remove everything that follows "/* remove icons from navbar", i.e from "/* remove icons from navbar.." till where the css string declaration ends ".entry-date { margin: 0 2px 0 0 !important; }"
With that I give it a 4.5/5
