It does exactly what it's supposed to do, but Gmail sometimes shows links to tracking numbers for UPS, FedEx, or DHL when an email arrives from them. Is there any way to get rid of the ads while keeping the tracking number links?

No one likes ADS in Gmail, I tried some GM scripts to remove them but this one is the simplest. You also have the possibility to keep visible the Gmail Footer (You are currently using... /
Last account activity... / Gmail view: standard...)
