My god this is slick. I wrote script updater to be included in scripts and display an update dialogue, but being able to monitor scripts with no updater installed via your tool is great!

must have userscript, hope that someday it is not needed and greasemonkey has that functionality built into it.

Best script you'll ever install , Dec 30, 2008
Review written by Stephan Sokolow - see all my reviews (14)

If you've ever wished the "check for updates" button from Stylish were offered in Greasemonkey, this is the extension you've been waiting for.

Not only does this script add an "Update scripts" option to the Userscripts.org header, it offers automatic, periodic checking... something which Stylish lacks.

It does have its shortcomings, but considering that it goes well beyond what Greasemonkey scripts are intended to do, it's a miracle that there aren't more. For example:

It can't guarantee that it'll track every script you've installed off Userscripts.org. You have to either re-install your scripts or try the "import installed scripts" option.

The "import installed scripts" option doesn't always work. (Because Greasemonkey tries to isolate Userscripts from the rest of the system, it has to guess where your installed userscripts are stored and occasionally gets it wrong)

The update-checking popup is part of the page it appears on, so if you're quick-fingered, you might occasionally close it before you can read it by clicking a link or closing a tab.

On the plus side though, it generally "Just Works" and works beautifully and, once it knows about all your scripts, you'll wonder how you ever tolerated easily-broken scripts (eg. adbox removers) without it.

I just wish I could use Greasemonkey to write Firefox extensions until the Firefox devs figured out how to write a stable API.

Fantastic Script! , Nov 21, 2008
Review written by Tarkus - see all my reviews (1)

This has made life so much easier here. There is a script that checks for updates for scripts that support it, but since hardly any do, it's pretty much worthless. This script checks them all!

I'm stumped why it's coded to be active on all sites, though. Seems like it should only be active here.

I don't have a great many userscripts installed, but I have enough that manually updated them all can be annoying.

Using this script to update the rest makes my life easier and is essential to anyone who uses scripts that update often.
