A client-side highlighter is probably better, even if it isn't a memory issue now, it could become one later - it may depend on how well the highlight code is written (I ought'a know, I've written some really slow Perl script). But it adds a lot of span tags in the html. I wrote a very basic gm script that does simple highlighting, and right after I wrote it I saw how buggy it can be. With a client side script we could also have the option to turn it off if it messes things up or if we just don't want it, or want to use our own highlighter.</body>
