Forum Guidelines

Last update May 17, 2009

The maintainer of userscripts, Jesse Andrews, has not approved this guide. It was written as a suggestive thingy by me, Avindra V.G..

We at userscripts are a very welcoming community, and we certainly love helping people. In order to help me help you help us all, here are a few pointers for posting correctly:

  • Always be courteous; it's one of the reasons our forums are great the best on the Internet.
  • Post with as much proper English as you are capable of.
  • Read your post over and see if it makes sense (in scripting, being vague is very easy).
  • Don't ask for help with scripts on this site. One person made that script-- the author. We have no idea how he (or she) coded it. Rather, use the discussions page of that particular script, or send a private message the author from their profile page.
  • If you're having trouble posting code, you can use, well, userscripts! A good one is Userscripts Comments Fix.
  • Post links! Don't be embarassed-- we don't know you, and no one will make fun of you. Plus, there will always be someone crazier than you are.
  • Use pastebin.com or pastebin.ca to post code-- it will most likely appear malformed otherwise.
  • BBCode does not work! HTML does!
  • Perhaps most importantly, don't assume how to fix the problem! People often ask "where can i find a auto-clicker" or "how do i replace the text where it says 'blah'", or concoct absurd solutions for their problem-- leave the thinking to us! You'll get a much better solution than what you would've asked for, guaranteed.
    • For example, most people think JavaScript is for maintaining a pile of text that makes up an HTML page. There is a actually a DOM though-- Document Object Model. So don't think it's a pile of text ;)
  • Don't bump... many of us read every post. Unfortunately, most of us aren't big on making game scripts. If you want us to help with those, like Travian and whatnot-- either post the source code of the page on pastebin, or provide login credentials and the page you're trying to grease.

That's all I can think of for now. But yeah, please try to follow these guidelines!
