I have created an account here that I can't verify because, for whatever reason, the email address I supplied at sign-up time did not receive the validation email and does not receive the password-reset emails that I request from time to time. Looking back through the forum, I see I am not alone in this.

So instead I have this account. It has a "2" on the end of the name, and I'd prefer it not to be there, but I can't rename it because the system claims the other one is still in use. As instructed on the login page I have emailed monkeyoil@gmail.com about this a couple of times but haven't heard anything back.

Unfortunately the sign-up system as it stands is sub-optimal. If you mistype your email address while signing up then there's no way to correct it, nor to reuse the display name you typed in. That will just be one more useless account sitting unused on the servers, taking up a display name that someone might want.

In an ideal world the system would be changed so that you can (a) delete an unverified account by supplying the correct password, and/or (b) change the registered email address of an unverified account by supplying the correct password and then have a validation email sent to that new address.

In addition, the system should require you to revalidate your email address each time you change it - otherwise what is the point of validating it in the first place?

Funny that the same thing happened to me just a few hours ago. Only i posted my issue into Spam and malware sticky instead of creating a new thread, as I figured the dealing with spammers is being done by people with admin powers who should be able to fix my problem. http://userscripts.org/forums/3/topics/9?page=9... Users older than 3 days that haven't validated their emails are getting deleted every 12 hours now!
