after installing script, I'm not able to see ant formatter inside general settings

Brad - You need to insert the code into your Greasemonkey application. Please consult the instructions at http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/using.html on how to do that.

Only your unformatted signature goes into the settings block.

I'm trying to figure out how to use this ... My goal is to create an "embedded" link to a url...

I'm fairly certain that your script will allow me to do that, however I'm not quite sure how to get it to work. I attempted to cut/paste the entire contents of the source code into Gmail's Settings -- Signature window.. but I keep getting an error message indicating that my signauture "cannot be longer than 2000 chars" ... I tried removing all the "intructions" at the beginning but it is still too large.

Can you please tell me exactly what portion of the script I need to copy into the window ?

I also tried to use MJB's "Gmail - Insert HTML Signature 2.1.1" but it does not seem to allow you to actually embed the url into text.

I'm very interested in narrowing the scope of this script so that it only runs when composing a new message.

Currently the @include statements are:

//@include http://mail.google.com/mail/*
//@include https://mail.google.com/mail/*

Example URL for a page composing new message:

http://mail.google.com/mail/?hl=en&zx=1bq092qda...
