Avoiding Conflict with Customize Google , replied by villadelu @ Mon, 29 Jun 2009 22:00:51 +0000

Thanks for responding. I turned off customize google and used only googlePrivacy for a while. I did that test several times and everything was cool. I kept the adblock window docked as I searched on google. Eventually two things began appearing in addition to the three blockable elements that are seen while using google with googlePrivacy. First, this appeared "h**p://id.google.com/verify/*.gif". I blocked that. Next a really strange IPv6 connection was created by google. I turned off IPv6 support in firefox very quickly so I don't have the url of the request for you.

Long story short, I turned back on customize google for its other features, and it is coexists fine with googlePrivacy no problem. I haven't seen those nefarious links appear again, and I would probably just chalk it up to the mighty google doing everything in its power to stop you from stopping it.

Again thanks, great script.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I'll add the google.* URL matcher to the next revision; which should be out soon given how
much user feedback I've gotten.

That would mean that either googlePrivacy hasn't loaded properly or that
Customize Google has reset the google variable for it's own use.
I don't know how Customize Google works so I don't know which is the case.
For starters, make sure that when you right-click on the GM icon on a google search
page that you can see the googlePrivacy script loaded.
If it's not then there is something wrong with the URL matching strings.
Otherwise, it is a conflict and I'll have to take a look at the Customize Google source
to sort it out.

Aah, I figured out what it was. I use http://www.google.com.au/ and the included pages are http://www.google.com/ .etc

I got round it just by adding http://www.google.com.au/ to the list, but you could get around all countries by using http://www.google.* I guess.

Edit:

Thanks for the great script btw ;)

I have been using customize google for a while, and its great. I just added your script and I am an instant fan. Are you aware of any conflicts, because I have customize google set to do as many privacy features as I can including anonymizing the google UID cooking and blocking any analytics cookies. Do you know of any conflicts between these two?

Also, when I do the )javascript:alert(google) it brings a popup saying "[object Object]", I am not sure if that means there is a problem.

Hi,

When clicking on the "more" link at the top the Google page it no longer drops down the fancy menu when this script is loaded. Can you please look into this?

It shouldn't, that was the first thing that this was supposed to get rid of.
It just kills the Google JavaScript objects so that they can't be used to change the
HREFs for the links.
Can you reproduce it?
Try typing javascript:alert(google) into the URL bar while at the google search page.
If it shows anything other than "null" or a blank alert box then something is wrong.
Also, right click on Greasemonkey while at the search page and see if googlePrivacy is actually
running.

After a search in Google, the results listed seem to link directly to the site (eg: http://userscripts.org)

But after you click it, it still loads through this link:
http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&ct...

It seems that this script breaks the onload focus functionality of the search box on the main google page. It's annoying to click the textbox every time I load up Google.
Any way to fix this?
