A bit sad - no one will be using my script anymore, but it's nice to see the big G finally remembered some parts of the world write right-to-left.

Noam: Thanks for alerting us to this! The feature is hidden well. I wonder how long it’s been there! For everyone wondering where that feature is, let me quote your Google Groups comment:

In case you're looking for the feature - in settings to the right of the interface language there's a "More language options" link that lets you choose to enable RTL controls.

In case anyone hasn't noticed: in the latest version of Gmail, the RTL button is finally available on the English version. This makes this userscript, and others like it, obsolete.

One more thing that exists in the script and not with the ctrl-shift-x is the ability to control exactly which section goes RTL and which doesn't in your email.
Not sure it justifies the continued existence of this script, but we'll keep it up there meantime.

Crazy!!

It used to put your text back on the left when you hit send. It doesn't do that anymore, so Ctrl+Shift+X really is a better solution nowadays. I'll check to see if there's a graveyard for scripts where I can burry this one.

Hi,
I'm a big fan of your script and I used it a lot.
However, apparently there's an easier way to add write in gmail with RTL support:
In Firefox: Just press Ctrl+Shift+x
In Explorer: Ctrl+Shift

The only problem is when you view the snippets in the inbox, it looks scrambled (However, it also scrambled using this script)

First problem is that it's not as friendly to have it in the user script command menu.
The other problem is that I'm not a big maven in greasemonkey, so if anyone knows how to do it, by all means...

How about having a "user script command" that simply inserts the RTL section? Then you can drop the RTL4Gmail panel.

Moreover, would it then be possible to generalize this script to other WYSIWYG HTML editors? That would be awesome.

Look for the link on the left (add rtl section). This is not an implementation of the direction buttons

There's an "install this script" button on the top right. It will open GM automatically and offer to install.

If it stopped working for you after you installed FF3, try uninstalling and reinstalling. It did the trick for me

I'm looking for that kind of script for a long time. (since gmail 2 arrives)
and Its great !
writing an English word inside a Hebrew sentence,
and send it correct - Its all I needed.

Originally I wanted to have the text added selected by default, so you can start writing immediately. Couldn't figure out a way to do it though, so if anyone out there is less rusty than me with Javascript - a little help can make a big difference.

I checked google apps, and it works fine, especially since http://mail.google.com/* contains http://mail.google.com/a/*... Is it not working for you?

it works great!

Two more things:
1. please add http://mail.google.com/a/* and the same for https, because this is the mail for google apps with specific domain.
2. what about just writing HEB, instead of all the sentence, because we need to delete it anyway.

aside from those two, this script is long waited and very welcome... :)

Oh, and I changed the script name to *not* contain version #. It means you'd have to uninstall your previous one before installing the newer one. From now on, though, you would not have to do that.

Did it. It does the job (no need for an extra LTR link - you are now able to write LTR after the RTL section).

OK, Issahar, I see what you mean.
I'll try to add a carriage return (line break) after the text, so that you'll be able to have LTR text before and after the added section.
Let's see how that one goes.

How do i continue to write in English after i wrote in Hebrew? I couldn't do it...
Maybe you could add a link to add LTR again.
