Updated script, replied by RachelK

I couldn't get this to work (Twitter probably changed their backend since this script was last updated?). I wrote an updated version which you can install here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/38521

Thanks to Paul for providing the basis for a very, very useful script.

I can't get this to work at all. After installing, from Twitter home page, accessing Tools> Greasemonkey> User Script Commands> Edit Usernames allows me to enter names, but after I do, and select "Update," on refreshing the Twitter main page, all the same users tweets appear as usual. Also, peculiarly, when I attempt the process again (Tools> Greasemonkey> User Script Commands> Edit Usernames), invariably, whatever fifth username I had added the previous time has disappeared from the TwitterIgnore v0.2 list completely. (Never mind that the first four out of the five appear in the list as they should, but in any case, their tweets again appear unaffected on Twitter's main page.)

No matter how many times I reenter the fifth username and select "update," neither that user's tweets - nor the four users preceding it in the TwitterIgnore v0.2 list, which remain as entered but still are not actually blocked from appearing - are whatsoever affected.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong here?

Also, IF I can actually get this script to work, I would also like to see a capacity to enter more than five usernames.

Thanks in advance for any insights you may be able to provide!

funDiva Christy: I've never seen Endless Tweets before but if I can find some time I'll have a look.

As for more than 5 ignorable usernames.. possibly, there's no real reason why there has to be any limit although the user interface I have in my head for this currently clashes with my Javascript abilities.

OK I'm trying this paired with Endless Tweets and it will ignore on 1st page but then doesn't, which is as I would expect. Is that too much work to get them to work together? (not really what you were after) And then I was gonna ask if you could add more fields, more than 5 you could ignore hehe

snowbear I did have to tweak the order, TwitIgnore, Endless, timeline

Hm, sorry, I should've been explicit:

On installing and viewing your Twitter home page, you need to go to the Greasemonkey menu in Firefox -> User Script Commands -> Edit Usernames. A dialog box will then appear to allow you to edit the Twitter names you want to ignore.

Well I've installed it . . . but it doesn't seem to do anything. I see no interface or changes at all on my twitter home page. :-(

Firefox 2.0.0.14
Greasemonkey 0.7.20080121.0

I and plenty of people I know love Twitter, but occasionally you'll get people who fill up your tweet list with all sorts of rubbish - temporarily or otherwise. This script lets you ignore them, but doesn't stop you following them permanently - thus avoiding any potential social awkwardness..

My browser JS sucks so I haven't bothered with any flashy UI. Maybe I'll find the time to make it a bit slicker.
