Quick Fix, replied by Pavel Hofman

Hi,

a simple fix for the current youtube:

var video_info = unsafeWindow.yt.getConfig('SWF_ARGS');

instead of the original

var video_info = unsafeWindow.swfArgs;

Extend this by not making it specific to youtube?, replied by ticket

This is a very good plug-in, however it is hard-coded to youtube.
Making it generic would improve this tremendously.

The way to do this is to use the technique that flashgot uses to recognise incoming streams.
I am told there is a function in FF that can be called to detect streams.

If the URL of these streams are passed to the media player, then ANY web site would work with HQTube.
Maybe you could then rename this script as HQAll !

The script could also be simplified by removing the code for window resizing. The embedded mplayer has tools of its own to resize itself, to full screen if required.

Please, please can the author give this a go?

Fame and maybe fortune awaits!

YouTube HD, replied by thomas_grand

First of all, thank you for an amazing work you have done. Youtube is running smooth after adding your script. But I've noticed that movies placed on youtube shown on different sites like failblog.org are still played by gnash. I've tried adding http://*youtube.*/v/* to pages but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

YouTube HD, replied by stpn

First of all, thank you for this awesome script :) I've been using it for quite a while and it really made YouTube a lot nicer.

However, lately I've been getting some errors from HQTube. Some YouTube pages don't have a related videos section anymore, for example. Also, YouTube now has HD-quality videos and this script can only use the HQ-video's or anything in lower quality right now.
Any chance this script is going to get updated in the future? Thanks!

Excellent!
Thank you so much for this script. It has been the only one of the "replace adobe flash with something else" type of scripts that has worked for me so far. This means I don't have to switch on Linux emulation and switch to opera to look at youtube.
Yay!

Edit -- damn
Frickin youtube changed their formatting literally hours after I installed this. Now it doesn't work.

Stupid damn youtube.

The OSS world gets so much disrespect.

georgie, you can edit the script and change the mime type from video/quicktime to anything that VLC supports. I think video/x-flv would work.

I have done some testing in Windows. First, to get VLC to work, you need to check the "Mozilla plugin" option when you install it. Quicktime player can actually play the videos if you have selected "Use MP4 format always", but it won't resize the player. Since VLC doesn't have controls you can not make it go fullscreen... or anything else. I might add some javascript based buttons later.

I registered on userscripts just to thank you for this. I'm using it with mplayer.

At first youtube was out of sync, but then I set up the mplayer plugin config like you said and set up the script to default to a higher encoding. I donno which of these did it, but it works perfectly now.

Thank you

For some reason, although VLC for Windows can play a flv from the "get_video" URL, the VLC plugin doesn't seem to support the "video/x-flv" MIME type according to about:plugins

Can you please test the script with the VLC plugin?

The only thing that I wish is to have the name of video as the name of the file you save i.e. some kind of routine to take the title of the web page and put it as filename.
