Yeah eminn3m, if you're logged in....

I don't wanna have to be logged into YouTube 24/7 just to watch HQ *(not HD) videos. My script works an all yt vids when you're not logged in.

Someone should really correct that description above: There is plenty of need to use the script, because it allows you to access the highest quality video, better than just setting "Always play higher quality video" in the options. Also, the page might not show that you are playing a higher quality video or show you the "&fmt=18" suffix in the URL - all you would see is an "Original" link. Rest assured - you are getting the highest quality.

I've found something interesting... it seems that the built-in "watch in high quality" videos on youtube are encoded in mono audio (which are encoded in FLV), while the MP4 versions are in stereo.

Also, the FLV HQ versions are actually larger in file size than the MP4 versions. Makes you wonder why YouTube insists on sticking with FLV...

Oh no, not the spammers...

anyway, some videos do not have MP4 versions available, and therefore do not load with this script.

Now if there's no MP4 video and you're only using the "&fmt=18" trick, it just plays the lower quality version. Is there any way to make this happen with the script as well?

I've noticed that when you click the "original" link, then reload the page, the high-quality video won't play (it tries to load endlessly)

I think what happens it that clicking the "original" link adds a # to the end of the URL, and when you reload, the # is still in the url, and this script can't locate the HQ video then.

Is there any way that the script could ignore the # when it's at the end of the URL?

Umm, youtube just changed their site around and now this script no longer works. (even though adding &fmt=18 to the end of the url still works)

There most certainly is need for this script yet. The YouTube option doesn't seem to be working. At least, I don't see a "Play in lower quality" link. Plus, it's certainly not the H.264 version, like this script gives. Those play in widescreen, but the videos still play with black borders on all sides if I simply select "play in higher quality" in the settings.

Hi, I wrote http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/23535 . I just tested my script against the options in the link you have in the description. It still finds better quality for most videos, and finds high quality for videos where youtube supposedly doesn't have high quality available.

Just wanted to let you know you don't have to throw away yours as it probably is still working better than the Youtube options too.

Btw is the aLoader GIF that 10000 other scripts including mine sport yours? If so, thanks.

hello works fine thanks alot!!!
but i have still a lil question and how can i download the HD version of this clip? i have some firefox extension installed like Downloadhelper, DownThemAll, Media Pirate, ect.. but with all this tools its still downloading in the normal versions...
any idea?

but there is a little problem. not with the script, but with youtube. some videos are not available in higher quality. so i have to disable greasemonkey for these videos, go back and load the site again.

i dont know, wich solution is the best. maybe a link to lower quality in the near of the video window."
