That is fine Jake. I was just wondering if there was simply a test you could remove from the script that is causing the popups to appear. I don't get the popups when not using the script.

It is good to know that I gave you the script and the instructions that you wanted. Unfortunately, modifying the script so that the pop-ups that you describe will not appear is not something that can be easily implemented, if it can be implemented at all. However, if you have any other requests, I will certainly consider them.

Thank you very very much Jake. Your instructions were excellent too. I implemented your script in 5 minutes! One minor thing; it may not be recommended, but can I bypass the 'Security Information' popups? I always click 'Yes' to these so it's a very minor nuisance. After I WindowWash my cache, keeping all cookies from the Google domain, I have to click this message 3 times.

I attempted to modify your script to bypass these messages, but only succeeded in turning my browser into a toy machine gun 'brrrratattttt'.

If I can't bypass these, that's cool.

Hello Charlie.

I have modified this script so that anything in it that would make it incompatible with any add-ons for Internet Explorer that can be used to run user scripts was removed. The only feature in it that was removed was the one that gives the option to use the secure version of Gmail. That feature may be considered obsolete anyhow, as Gmail now gives the option to use HTTPS when logged into Gmail.

If you would like to know how to run this script in Internet Explorer, I would suggest downloading and installing an add-on for Internet Explorer named Trixie. Clicking here will take you to the page where you can download Trixie and read instructions on how to use it. As the instructions there say, you will need to copy script files to a directory, and you can save this modified version of the script to your hard drive after you click here. This script has been tested with Trixie, and it will also work with an add-on titled IE7Pro. However, I found that it works more efficiently with Trixie than with IE7Pro, and you may find it easier to set it up so that it will work with Trixie as well.

No prob on the delay. My current workaround is to use Notifier to alert me to incoming mail, then using an IE shortcut on my desktop pointing to http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1, the older version of Gmail, to open Gmail. Kinda hokie, but it works...

If you can make your script work with IE that would be excellent, and greatly appreciated. Remember my other shortcoming regarding JavaScripts; I haven't a clue as to how to implement them. Hopefully there is an existing .js file that IE already uses that I can copy and paste your code into.

Could you include some installation instruction for us .js dummies?

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner about this. I usually respond to feedback about what I have written within a shorter period of time, although I have been quite busy recently. Still, I should perhaps attempt to check for feedback on what I have written more frequently.

I understand that it is possible for user scripts to be used within Internet Explorer. However, I have not ensured that any of my scripts are compatible with Internet Explorer. I could determine what would need to be done in order to make this script compatible with IE. If this is something that you would like, then I will see if I can do this for you and all those who would like this script to be compatible with IE.

Hey Jake,

You're probably not going to like this, but I am an IE user and don't want to change... On top of this, I was a hardcore C++ prorammer in another life before I got Lou Gehrig's disease; but know near nothing about Java scipts.

I love the solution you've written for opening the older version of Gmail from notifier, and I wanna use it! I know I don't belong in this forum, not being a Moxilla man and knowing nothing about installing java scripts, but can you help me out?

I've googled my butt off and your solution is the best (and only) thing going. Thanks in advance; and all apologies for my shortcomings.

Thanks very much. I find Gmail2 to be very slow loading, the greasemonkey script for Gmail signature float doesn't work with it, and they've added a bunch of pokey features I don't care about. I wish Gmail would fix their whole signature placement "bug", but this is the second- or third-best thing.

It is good to know that you find this script useful. In fact, one of the reasons I wrote this script is because there were users who use scripts that only work with the older version of Gmail. And I thought those users would prefer not to have to click the link to use the older version.

this is great Jake! i use a spanish accent toggling script when i write my e-mail in spanish, and it only works with the older version of gmail. it's such a drag to keep clicking on the link whenever i want to write in spanish, so thanks so much for this!

The update to make the script work when accessing Gmail from iGoogle was made as per a request from a user of the script. And I decided to add the option to redirect to a URL so that the connection to Gmail would be secure because I thought some users might want that option. In fact, I thought quite a few users would prefer using a secure connection, and that is why I have it set to redirect to a secure connection by default. And it is good to know that you are one of those users who like that new feature.

the UK English workaround does not work anymore, so this script really does come in handy, as many gmail scripts do noty have the same functionality with the newer version...
and I also like the secure connection too!!

Thanks. It is always good to hear about how useful this script is. And I understand that the workaround of changing the display language to "English (UK)" is one that will not work for much longer. Therefore, this script may become even more useful in the future.

I added this script's ability to work with the Gmail Notifier extension after a user of it said that it did not work with that extension. Whenever I find out about ways to improve this script, I try to make those improvements.

Woo! Thanks so much. My work computer can handle the new UI but my home one can't. (CPU shoots through the roof, and I can barely do anything else on that machine.) I appreciate that you made it work with Gmail Notifier because that's the normal way I get to my mail :)

I have updated this script once again to ensure that it will work more reliably. I have run tests on it, and found that it works correctly. I would appreciate it if I could be informed if any users of this script are still having difficulty with it. I am not always able to ensure that it is working properly, as I have noted here.

I have updated this script so that it should work when accessing Gmail through the Gmail Notifier extension. It also seems to redirect more quickly and efficiently than it did previously. I have tested this script after these most recent updates, and it works properly when I try to use it. However, if this script does not actually work as intended, I would like to be informed of any issues with it as soon as possible.

I have modified this script so that when using Gmail with a non-secure connection, it will once again redirect the user to the older version of Gmail. I have tested it out and should work properly.

I have updated this script and I have found that it once again successfully redirects the user to the older version of Gmail. I have modified it so that it should work more reliably now and in the future, as it now handles more situations that may occur. I would appreciate receiving any feedback about this updated version of this script. I would like to ensure that it will work as intended.

I have also found that it no longer redirects to the older version of Gmail. I am currently looking into this and I expect to have an updated and working version of this script available shortly.
