I've made another Gmail2 version, also pref-based and easier to use! http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/25209
It allows you to select from label-menu which labels you want to hide.

I've created my version of such script for Gmail2 which hides labels with name started with x_

The reason those didn't work for you is because they're not labels, technically speaking. Only the labels that are actually in the "Labels" box can be hidden right now.

That said, I'll see about hiding the core "folders," too.

did not work for me using labels "starred|chat|drafts|spam" What would be the proper format for this?
