I responded to a similar email recently, and I'm posting my response here for reference.

Thanks for your response.

Please copy the source of the offending page by going to "View" in the Firefox menu, followed by "Page source". Select all of the source by right clicking in the source window, and selecting "Select all". Copy the selected text, and save it in a text file. Then, email me the text file as an attachment.

I would also appreciate it if you would describe how the script isn't working on the page you described. The correct behaviour is as follows:

When the limit is not used up,
(1) the timer is removed,
(2) the download link is displayed, and
(2) the download is started automatically if so set in the preferences.

When the limit used up,
(3) the script prints the time needed to wait, and
(4) the page is reloaded automatically when the time limit is finished.

If you could identify which part of the behaviour isn't working in the page you specify, I can use the source code in the text file you'll send me to fix the error.

I tested the script with a page today after using up the limit, and I had no problems. So, I'd appreciate the code to see what happened.

When Deposit Files displays:

Waiting between downloading files MISSING!

The script doesn't do anything. A minor issue, for sure. It also happens to JDownloader, FWIW...

I have saved a page so can provide the sample HTML if needed.

You made a new variable for waiting time and gave it a 60 sec refresh rate. Awesome!

You know, probably the next step in "leet-ness" would be to search the page for the number indicating the amount of minutes to wait and set the timer to an approximate value repeatedly (slightly less) until it reaches 1min and thus reduce the amount of reloads. The script is already awesome and this last suggestion imho is a little bit of a hassle. :P

But about the country slot obtainer... I think the idea to it is that you quickly grab a spot before someone else does, right? It's a hunch, I'm not entirely sure how it works but I think 3 seconds is a but too brief. Mayhap you could increase that rate to 15 seconds? Downloads usually take at least a minute on an average Internet connection. If your script made it magically automatic then there's no rush to go and click, right?

Just my two pennies.

That's an excellent idea. I didn't really look into what the time differences were for the different waiting conditions, so I just set it to three seconds.

I'll look into what the orders of magnitude of the waiting times for each condition, and I'll update the script to behave more efficiently. If there is an indication of how long the user should wait, I'll see if it can't just be automatically set to that time.

Could it be possible to make more variables to put less strain on the browser? What I mean is that noDownloadSlot is used to check whether there's a download active, if the download limit has been reached and another one I don't know what it is.

Each occasion usually has a different waiting time. If somebody reached the download limit they're going to be waiting for 6 minutes or more. That would make refreshing the page every 3 seconds pointless and tasking on Firefox and depositfiles as well (it's true, they have the bandwidth to handle it... but every byte less still counts ;) ). Something similar could be said about waiting due to active downloads and perhaps the other option as well?

I was thinking of modifying it myself but this is your script and maybe anybody else could also benefit from the changes you might make if you think they're worth it (and because I don't know Java pretty well XP ).

Anyway, awesome script. Honestly, I use it mainly to download $%!&* :D

The script reloads the page until you get a download slot. You may notice that the time restriction does not change if it is not in small enough units.

The script reloads the page every 3 seconds, whereas the restriction stated on the page may not be of a small enough resolution to notice the time elapsed.

e.g. If your time restriction is 10 minutes, a reload after 3 seconds will result in the same 10 minute restriction. This is because 3 seconds may not have been enough time to reduce the restriction to a lower, noticeable value, such as 9 minutes.

When I go to depositfiles, it says "Automatically getting a download slot; please wait...", then the same page refreshes, with the same time restriction.

I'm on a router; could that effect the script?

Can you provide a URL that does not work?

In German, both the ,,Die Datei downloaden'' and the ,,von Spiegel-Server downloaden'' work on the links I've tested. Have you removed the old version of the script before installing the new version?

Edit:

There seemed to be an issue with the auto download feature. From my testing, v 1.3 should have the necessary fix.

If anything else isn't working, don't hesitate to mention it.

The first button is working but the download one is being ignored. My guess is there's a typo in you're released script.

This is an example of what is not being pushed now:

It's not working on German or Spanish, don't know about others as I haven't seen them yet.

The script has been updated so that it should work in any language. It searches the HTML code in addition to checking for specific phrases to determine which page the script is on.

Previously, this script only worked in German and English. I've also removed the page changing function after clicking the download button, and the pop up no longer shows up when clicking the download button.

The script has been fixed. You don't even need to enter the captcha now. You can either automatically download and save right away or you can just click the download button right away.

Edit: There should be no dialogue box pop-ups any more, apart from the one asking for your preference the first time you run the script.

This was working fine until I went today...now all that you get is 'Timer not initialized' on the page so they obviously got wise to this script and have rewritten their code...
Any chance you can rewrite yours too...?

The first time I go to deposit files with this script installed, it ask me if I want to allow the "automatic download of the file", I've selected "cancel", but it go to the download page anyway... Worst of all, appears the counter clock about three seconds, but then is replaced for the error "Timer not initialized", and doesn't show the captcha. What happen to this???

HELP! when the script is enabled I follow the link to depositfiles yadda yadda and it does not display the capcha, it does show however "Timer not initialized" any ideas?

I've noticed that this script seems to be popular. This is probably because there aren't many other scripts for Depositfiles. Are there other download sites--like Depositfiles--for which people would like me to develop scripts? Some download sites may be under-represented on userscripts.org.
